New report shows few colleges can support low income students
Wednesday, June 08, 2011

A new report from the Education Trust suggests that only a handful of colleges are prepared to meet the needs of lower-income students.

The report, "Priced Out: How the Wrong Financial Aid Policies Hurt Low-Income Students" looks at 1,186 colleges nationwide, which had comparable data on what lower-income students pay for college. In recent years, colleges have paid lip service to making college more affordable and accessible. But policy doesn’t always bear that out, the report shows.

Though BUILD can’t control college costs, it does work one-on-one with students to identify the best colleges for their interests, personality and financial abilities. We want our students to succeed – which is why if they can’t afford certain colleges, we direct them to a school that is more affordable or offers a terrific financial aid package.
