BUILD Celebrates 2008 BPCs

BUILD’s Annual Youth Business Plan Competitions (BPCs) symbolize the culmination of a year of hard work by entrepreneurial ninth grade students and their mentors. The students spend 7-10 hours a week during the academic school year with BUILD learning the fundamentals of business as well as management, organizational and professional communication skills in order to prepare for the BPCs. Student teams of 3-5 members then present their innovative business plans (including financial statements) in two rounds of competition to a panel of prestigious judges. The winning team receives start-up funding and automatic acceptance into BUILD’s second year program, the Youth Business Incubator.

BUILD hosts two distinct Business Plan Competitions: one, featuring our Peninsula students, at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and one, featuring our Oakland students, at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. This year, the teams have developed a vast array of innovative yet practical products that they will present to prestigious judges, including Silicon Valley Bank president Greg Becker and Oakland Tribune editor Martin Reynolds.

The BUILD Peninsula BPC will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 in the Bishop Auditorium at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and BUILD Oakland’s BPC will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 in the Arthur Andersen Auditorium at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. If you are interested in attending the Peninsula event, RSVP at 650.543.4769 or pbpc@build.org. To confirm your attendance at the Oakland BPC, please call 510.271.6093 or send email to obpc@build.org.
